"As of 20 May 2026, 516 suspected cases of Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) were reported in DRC, including 131 deaths. Eight cases were lab-confirmed in Ituri Province, and two in Uganda among travelers from Ituri. Two independent methods estimate 400–900 actual cases, with possible values over 1000. Findings indicate substantial under-detection and potential wider transmission."
