"A report from Imperial College London estimates that as of May 20, 2026, approximately 400 to 900 cases of Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) may have occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, based on 516 suspected cases and 131 deaths. Eight cases were confirmed in Ituri Province, and two in Uganda among travelers from Ituri. Two independent methods (population movement data and death-based analysis) suggest substantial under-detection."
