"The WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17, 2026. The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, for which no licensed vaccines or treatments exist. As of May 16, 336 suspected cases and 88 deaths were reported in Ituri province, with two cases in Uganda. Africa CDC has mobilized $2 million for containment, but more funding is urgently needed."
