"The World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern for an outbreak of Ebola caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. As of mid-May 2026, there have been 336 suspected and 10 confirmed cases in DRC with 87 deaths, and two confirmed cases in Uganda with one death. The Bundibugyo strain has no approved medical countermeasures, and early tests misidentified the virus. WHO has released $500,000 and sent five tonnes of supplies. Africa CDC expressed concern over contact tracing gaps and insecurity in Ituri province."
