- Guinea reports first Ebola cases since 2016: 3 deaths, 4 confirmed infections.
- All cases linked to a nurse's funeral in Goueke on February 1, 2021.
- WHO emergency vaccine stockpile of 500,000 doses announced, but only 7,000 available.
"On February 15, 2021, Guinea health officials confirmed at least three Ebola deaths and four additional confirmed cases, the first since the 2014-2016 West Africa epidemic. All seven positive cases attended a nurse's funeral in Goueke on February 1. The government declared an Ebola epidemic, initiated contact tracing and isolation, and accelerated vaccine procurement from WHO. Cases are in the Nzerekore region, where the previous outbreak began. The cases are not linked to those in the Democratic Republic of Congo. WHO had announced a global emergency stockpile of 500,000 Merck vaccine doses, but only 7,000 were available at the time."
