"On 2 July 2026, WHO added the first molecular diagnostic test for Bundibugyo virus (BDBV) to its Emergency Use Listing (EUL). The test detects viral genetic material in blood samples. This follows the 17 May 2026 PHEIC declaration for the BDBV outbreak in DRC and Uganda. As of the announcement, DRC alone reported 1406 confirmed cases and 438 deaths. Lab capacity in DRC expanded from 200–400 tests per day at two sites to over 2000 tests per day across 10 laboratories. Additional EUL applications and a joint validation platform with Africa CDC, PATH, FIND, CHAI, and Unitaid are underway."
