WHO Technical Advisory Group recommends BDBV-specific vaccines as preferred, considers Ervebo for post-exposure use in Bundibugyo outbreak (iris.who.int)
0xBASE INTEL BRIEF
- Over 900 suspected cases and 220 deaths reported as of 25 May in DRC and Uganda
- BDBV-specific vaccines (IAVI, Oxford) in development; GMP availability in 1-9 months
- Ervebo shows partial cross-protection in NHP but lower antibody titers in humans
- TAG-CVP recommends BDBV-specific vaccines, considers Ervebo for post-exposure studies
"The WHO TAG-CVP evaluated candidate vaccines against Bundibugyo virus (BDBV) during the outbreak in DRC and Uganda. BDBV-specific vaccines (IAVI and Oxford ChAdOx1) are preferred but not yet available in GMP grade. Ervebo shows weak cross-protection in non-human primates and is considered for post-exposure studies in contacts. Oxford vaccine may be available in 1-2 months, IAVI in 7-9 months. The group also considered prime-boost strategies with SUDV and EBOV vaccines for high-risk groups."
