"The WHO reported on May 29, 2026, that the Democratic Republic of Congo has 906 suspected Ebola cases and 223 suspected deaths from the Bundibugyo strain, which is spreading to Uganda. No approved vaccine or treatment exists for this strain. Three experimental drugs (MBP134, maftivimab, remdesivir) and two vaccine candidates (rVSV Bundibugyo, ChAdOx1 Bundibugyo) are under evaluation. Merck's Ervebo vaccine is not considered effective. Gilead's experimental antiviral obeldesivir is proposed for prophylaxis, contingent on rapid contact tracing."
