"As of 27 May 2026, the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has resulted in over 1200 suspected and confirmed cases and more than 250 deaths, doubling in a week. No approved vaccine or therapeutics exist for this strain. The International Rescue Committee warns it could become the deadliest outbreak on record without urgent action, citing global aid cuts and conflict. The US is building a quarantine facility in Kenya and has imposed travel restrictions."
