"The Mississippi State Department of Health issued a health advisory on the Bundibugyo virus (BVD) outbreak in the DRC and Uganda. No US cases reported as of May 28, 2026. WHO declared a PHEIC on May 17; CDC and DHS imposed travel restrictions on May 21. One exposed American was moved to Germany for treatment; six high-risk contacts moved to Germany and Czechia. Clinicians are advised to consider BVD in travelers from affected areas and to implement strict infection control. No licensed vaccine or treatment exists for BVD."
