"As of 24 May 2026, over 900 suspected Ebola cases had been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and seven in Uganda. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which no licensed vaccine or specific treatment exists. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is increasing its presence through the EU Health Task Force, deploying experts, and providing daily epidemiological updates. ECDC is also assisting EU/EEA countries with travel advice and preparedness, while assessing the risk to European populations as very low. A modelling study on potential importation into the EU/EEA is underway."
