"The Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing its 17th Ebola outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo strain for which no approved vaccine or treatment exists. Nearly 750 suspected cases and 177 deaths have been reported since the first victim died on 24 April in Bunia, Ituri. Health facilities are overwhelmed, with MSF reporting no available isolation wards. The response is hampered by the new strain, conflict, cultural funeral practices, and US aid cuts. The province has banned funeral wakes and restricted gatherings to 50 people. Experimental vaccines are being considered."
