"On 22 May 2026, WHO published an updated rapid risk assessment for the Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in DRC with exportation to Uganda. As of 21 May, 661 suspected cases and 160 deaths (CFR 24.2%) were reported, including 63 confirmed cases. The outbreak has spread to 16 health zones across three provinces. The national risk was raised from high to very high, regional risk high, and global risk low. No licensed vaccine or specific therapeutics exist for BVD."
