"On 31 May 2026, the DRC government and WHO issued a joint statement following a high-level visit to Bunia, reaffirming commitment to control the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus. The outbreak has spread across Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu provinces. No licensed vaccine or specific treatment exists for this strain; randomized trials for candidate vaccines and treatments are planned. Response efforts focus on surveillance, lab testing, patient care, contact tracing, safe burials, IPC, and community engagement. Partners include UN, Africa CDC. Borders remain open for supplies."
