"The WHO declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on 17 May 2026. The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved vaccines or treatments. At least 10 confirmed, over 330 suspected cases, and more than 80 deaths have been reported. Four healthcare workers have died. Undetected spread is likely due to conflict and limited access to healthcare."
