"The WHO announced a 30–50% death rate for the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), based on confirmed cases. As of 29 May 2026, there are 10 confirmed and 223 suspected Ebola deaths among over 1,000 confirmed and suspected cases. The outbreak, declared on 15 May, is the 17th in DRC and caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved treatment exists. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in Kinshasa and called for a ceasefire among armed groups in the affected Ituri region. The first recovery was reported on 27 May. Uganda closed its border with DRC, and a Kenyan high court suspended a US quarantine facility plan."
