- WHO national risk raised to 'very high' for DR Congo Bundibugyo outbreak
- 750 suspected cases, 177 suspected deaths; 82 confirmed, 7 confirmed deaths
- Uganda reports 2 confirmed imported cases, 1 death
- Oxford vaccine in animal trials; human trials possible in 2-3 months
- Hospital set on fire by relatives in Rwampara; military protection for staff
"The WHO has raised the public health risk of the current Ebola outbreak in DR Congo from "high" to "very high" at the national level. The outbreak involves the rare Bundibugyo species, which has no proven vaccine and kills about one-third of those infected. There are 750 suspected cases and 177 suspected deaths, including 82 confirmed cases and 7 confirmed deaths. Two confirmed cases occurred in Uganda in travelers from DR Congo. Oxford University scientists are developing a vaccine that could be ready for clinical trials within two to three months. Violence and community mistrust are hampering the response; a hospital was set on fire by relatives of an Ebola victim."
