WHO opens Emergency Use Listing for Bundibugyo virus nucleic acid detection tests following DRC outbreak and PHEIC declaration (extranet.who.int)

• WHO declared a PHEIC for Bundibugyo virus disease on 16 May 2026 after an outbreak in DRC and Uganda.
• On 29 May 2026, WHO launched an EUL call for BDBV nucleic acid detection IVDs to support outbreak response.
• Manufacturers are invited to submit product questionnaires and IFUs; pre-submission calls will follow.

"On 16 May 2026, WHO declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern for Bundibugyo virus disease after an outbreak in Ituri Province, DRC, with cross-border spread to Uganda. On 29 May, WHO published an invitation for manufacturers to submit in vitro diagnostics for BDBV nucleic acid detection under the Emergency Use Listing procedure. The outbreak was confirmed on 14 May by INRB. WHO aims to accelerate availability of reliable diagnostic tests to support the response. Manufacturers can submit product questionnaires and instructions for use to WHO."
